Jintronix, a virtual rehabilitation platform designed for use in occupational and physical therapy, is an effective tool in recovery after stroke.

Jintronix, a set of games and exercises designed to help with rehabilitation using the Kinect motion sensing technology, is one of the latest technologies currently being tested in hospitals in the United States and Canada. Created to address problems often encountered in healthcare – high costs of physical therapy and lack of staff and accessibility, among others – the Jintronix is a telerehabilitation platform that uses virtual technology to assist in physical and occupational therapy. The platform combines traditional movements and exercises used in rehabilitation with virtual games and motion sensing cameras, making physical therapy more engaging for patients and allowing therapists to program training routines for patients and adjust difficulty levels. The platform also tracks each patient's progress and ensures that all the exercises are performed correctly.

The Jintronix application contains all the traditional physical therapy activities. It was designed mainly to help in the recovery of individuals with orthopaedic and neurological conditions, including stroke and traumatic brain injuries (TBI), but also to help clinicians expand their services. The application can be downloaded to a PC, but patients must be prescribed the Jintronix by their clinician to get access to the service.

Jintronix uses virtual games to deliver evidence-based treatments, and each exercise was developed in collaboration with physical and occupational therapists to ensure that the recovery program is safe and effective. Clinicians can assign new routines and track their patients' progress whether the patients are exercising at home or at a rehabilitation facility. If they are using the Jintronix at home, they can get instant feedback while at the same time clinicians get the information they need to optimise in-clinic programs.

Founded in 2010, Jintronix is a Montreal-based company focusing on technologies that can make physical therapy speedier, more accessible, less costly, and more engaging to patients.
