Springfree Delivers Active Learning with the Smart Trampoline

Springfree Trampoline recently released their Smart Trampoline, designed to encourage families to go outside and be active. Included with the Smart Trampoline are apps designed to activate mental development as well as physical development.
Smart Trampolines have sensors in the mat that detect where you are on the mat, and how high you are jumping, with the data sent via Bluetooth to a tablet attached to the net.
Jumping around the mat controls the apps, meaning the trampoline becomes a huge controller driven by body movement.
Unlocking the brain for learning
Studies show that sustained vigorous exercise releases nerve growth factors in the brain’s hippocampus, especially one called BDNF which acts like fertilizer to condition the brain.
Aerobic movement, raising the heart rate to 65 – 75% of its maximum for a sustained period of 20 minutes, creates optimum conditions for strengthening neural nerve cells.
Encouraging kids to exercise can be a challenge. However, apps created for the Smart Trampoline have been designed specifically to engage a child’s attention. This means 20 minutes of vigorous activity is fun, something they want to do, rather than something they need to be coaxed into doing.
Of the 18 free games and apps that come with the Smart Trampoline, brain stimulation apps such as Quizzle (a quiz app), Math Hopper (a math app), Repeat Street (learning colours, shapes, alphabet and numbers), Ditto (a matching app) make use of the ideal conditions created when a child is physically active, engaged and focused.
Because the apps require jumping from side to side and front to back, this is one of the few activities that involve such high levels of coordination, balance and muscle control. Coordinating the body to manage this movement builds neural pathways between the right and left hemispheres of the neural cortex, promoting whole-brain thinking.
For children with additional physical or mental needs, ADHD, on the autistic spectrum, or with specific kinesthetic learning requirements, the repetitious physical nature of trampoline jumping is often helpful. Adding smart integration with educational apps provides an environment shown to both engage children and benefit their learning.

The educational apps available with the trampoline offer a varied range of options for learning while jumping. Quizzle, for instance, challenges kids’ knowledge across six categories, including geography, science, animals, books and movies, while Math Hopper offers 10 levels of math, including counting, addition, subtraction and multiplication. Developed for pre-schoolers, Repeat Street uses a rabbit to guide kids through the alphabet, counting, colours and shapes, while older children and adults can challenge themselves with 2048, a classic number puzzle that requires players to keep combining tiles to get to 2048, all while jumping.
